I was born in Lenoir County. My work history in law enforcement started early on with my first job at the Kinston Police Department working in Patrol, Police Community Action Team, Narcotics Investigations and the SWAT team.
Thereafter, I became a NC State Trooper, retiring with 30 years of service. Currently, I am employed with the City of Kinston as a Code Enforcement officer and also a reserve sheriff deputy with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition, I have served for the past 2 years as the president of the Greene/Jones/Lenoir Law Enforcement Association.
I graduated from South Lenoir High School, completed Basic Law Enforcement Training at Pitt Community College and graduated from the North Carolina Highway Patrol School.
Presently, I hold several law enforcement certifications to include my Intermediate and Advanced certificates and was presented the Long Leaf Pine Award from the Governor.
My wife, Dawn, and I have been married for 24 years and have 2 sons, Drew and Carson. We live just outside the Town of LaGrange.
Our family worships at Garris Chapel Church in LaGrange where I serve as head of the security team and usher.
My reason for seeking election to the office of Sheriff of Lenoir County is to help make Lenoir County a better, safer place for all of us to live and raise our families. There is no other place that I would rather use my experience and training to serve others and make a positive difference than in Lenoir County and I would start by:
- Creating an open, transparent and approachable relationship with the citizens of Lenoir County in an effort to reduce crime.
- Building a proactive law enforcement agency that would target drug and gun violence.
- Fostering an environment within the Sheriff’s Department that builds morale and is supportive of all employees.
I believe that the Sheriff’s Star is a symbol of public trust and to serve would be an honor and a privilege that I do not take lightly.
